I solved the problems with the classic doom levels...

I was dealing with a "visplanes" error and found out The Ultimate Doom Builder has a visualizer tool to assist with finding problem areas, so I made adjustments to the levels and now everything works great!

There's something about this level building process that I really enjoy. It reminds me of making levels for Duke Nukem 3D too because its very similar. I thought I would be burnt out after just a few levels, but I might make a few more because i'm enjoying it so much.
